  1. DESCRIPTION OF COMPUSTITCH
  2.  
  3.    CompuStitch is a relatively simple and easy to use
  4. program for designing and printing cross stitch
  5. designs in your spare time. It behaves much like a
  6. normal word processor, but instead processes
  7. stitches. The editor uses a few WordStar commands for
  8. compatibility and easier learning. This version
  9. supports three colors and six stitch types: cross
  10. (x), forward tent (/), reverse tent (\), bargello
  11. (|), horizontal (-), and french knot (o). There are
  12. 207 different stitch combinations possible since
  13. bargello and horizontal stitches can be combined with
  14. the other four stitch types for outlining.

  16. SETUP
  17.  
  18.    The first time you run CompuStitch you will need
  19. to run SETUP. SETUP will ask you if you have a
  20. Microsoft mouse, if you want the sound on, and if you
  21. want the screen dimmer on. The last response SETUP
  22. will ask you for is printer control codes to be sent
  23. to the printer before and after each pattern is
  24. printed. If you have a 132 column IBM compatible dot
  25. matrix printer, you shouldn't need to enter any
  26. codes. If you have an 80 column dot matrix printer,
  27. you will need to enter the control codes to start and
  28. stop compressed printing. Compressed printing and an
  29. IBM compatible printer are required because each page
  30. is 120 characters wide and uses the extended
  31. character set. You may need to cancel the form feed
  32. on your printer to avoid blank sheets of paper
  33. between pages.

  35. USING THE EDITOR
  36.  
  37.    The following keys and key combinations are used
  38. in the editor:

  40. [Up arrow]         Moves the cursor up one line
  41.  
  42. [Down arrow]       Moves the cursor down one line
  43.  
  44. [Left arrow]       Moves the cursor left one
  45.                    position
  46.  
  47. [Right arrow]      Moves the cursor right one
  48.                    position
  49.  
  50. [Ctrl]-[Right]     Scrolls the grid to the right
  51.  
  52. [Ctrl]-[Left]      Scrolls the grid to the left
  53.  
  54. [PG UP]            Scrolls the grid up
  55.  
  56. [PG DN]            Scrolls the grid down
  57.  
  58. [Home]             Moves the cursor to the first
  59.                    position on the current line
  60.  
  61. [End]              Moves the cursor to the last
  62.                    position on the current line
  63.  
  64. [SPACE] or [Ins]   Draws a stitch in the current
  65.                    color and stitch type at the
  66.                    current cursor location
  67.  
  68. [Del]              Erases the stitch at the current
  69.                    cursor location
  70.  
  71. [F10] or [Esc]     Activates the pull-down menu
  72.                    system
  73.  
  74. [Alt]-[F]          Activates the file menu
  75.  
  76. [Alt]-[S]          Activates the stitch menu
  77.  
  78. [Alt]-[C]          Activates the color menu
  79.  
  80. [Alt]-[B]          Activates the block menu
  81.  
  82. [Alt]-[O]          Activates the options menu
  83.  
  84. [ESC]              Closes the pull-down menu system
  85.                    when it is activated

  91. [F2]               Saves the current pattern to disk

  99.                    CompuStitch pattern files (.CSP)

  113. USING A MOUSE
  114.  
  115.    If you are using a Microsoft mouse, you can
  116. activate any of the menus by clicking either button
  117. on the menu bar. You can use the scroll bars by
  118. clicking on any of the four arrow heads. You can also
  119. change stitch types or colors by clicking on the
  120. icons appearing along the right hand side of the
  121. screen.  Please note that the current color is
  122. indicated by the cursor color and the current stitch
  123. type is shown below the mouse icons.  You can use the
  124. auto stitch function with a mouse, although it is not
  125. recommended.  The only way to cancel auto stitch is
  126. to activate the options menu (Alt-O) and press
  127. [Enter] on the first option.
  128.    When using the mouse to draw stitches on the grid,
  129. The left button will move the cursor to where the
  130. mouse arrow points and draw a stitch.  The right
  131. button will move the cursor without drawing a stitch.

  133. TECHNICAL INFORMATION
  134.  
  135.    CompuStitch was written in Turbo Pascal 5.0.  It
  136. requires about 256K RAM, DOS 3.0 or higher, and CGA
  137. or anything higher that is compatible with CGA (EGA,
  138. VGA).
  139.    Please let me know if anybody runs into difficulty
  140. that should be fixed or listed here in the future.
